I perform regularly on the local popular music scene and also work directly with local composers for the performance of new works.
My Approach: I enjoy specializing in a student's personal needs (in any style)- helping to dispel the myth that if you can sing classically you can sing anything.
As I frequently perform soul, trip-hop, traditional aria, and contemporary art song, I really do understand the need for an individual sound in your chosen genre.
Essential to my teaching is an observation of fundamental technique and genre appropriate stylings which vary greatly from classical to theatre to pop (including all styles from country twang to a soft rock lilt and metal roar)!
You will learn:
- Efficient breathing with full control and tone support - Stylistically appropriate larynx (voice box) & velum (soft palate) positioning, as well as areas of vocal placement and resonance - Warm-ups and exercises that can be done anywhere and do not require piano accompaniment and why they are essential to vocal development - Effective rehearsal techniques - Critical listening and evaluation - Healthy vocal habits - Stylistically appropriate performance practice (mic technique, engaging the audience, classical etiquette, or acting through a stage piece, etc.)
Rates:30 min.-£16, 45 min.-£22, 1 hr.-£28, *Fortnightly lessons available for 1 hr. only at a cost of £30.00
My tuition schedule is based on 4 terms per year.
