So true, Diane. Having been chairperson for judges and the Houston area auditions for a number of years, I can concur. Frankly, my best advice for students entering these auditions is to tell them that the majority of judges are sitting there waiting for something wonderful to happen. I truly do not believe that adjudicators (certainly not myself) are ogres who can't wait to write nasty things! For my own part, I'd love to be constantly amazed, astonished, and moved by one singer after another. I anticipate great things as I sit and listen.
