Okay, I'll throw my opinion into the mix here. I'm not a fan of censorship. In addition to being opposed to it in principle, one of the things I like about a list such as this is that a fairly immediate discussion can take place without waiting for someone to "okay" the messages, which is what happens on Choralist. Between those who post at odd hours, like me, and the list members in different time zones, a moderator would have to be pretty much glued to the computer (with a vat of coffee) to keep up.
However, I also don't feel comfortable scolding fellow list members privately for posts that violate that (necessarily subjective) boundary of rudeness. Perhaps this could be a public, on-list function that any member could initiate - you know, positive peer pressure. That tends to happen now only when posts have been way out of line for an extended period of time, but maybe we could agree to jointly nipping rude conversations in the bud.
