Dear Tako and Lloyd:
Tako, thanks for your addition to the discussion.
I think what you wrote reinforces the point I was trying to make in referencing Wim's posts about vibrational modes.
I have a light tenorish voice, although I am not a "high" tenor - my passage points are roughly those of a heavy tenor/high baritone (say passagio from middle C to E4/F4 above). In my work now with an SLS teacher, I feel kind of a like a "haute-contre" - that is, I go from chest through the passagio to "mix" or what might be called "tenor head voice". I am clear that I do not generally use falsetto in the range up to say A4 (above middle C). But then around A4 or so it seems I have a choice - my voice flows smoothly (sometimes!) into what I think of as a non-breathy falsetto, or I can (sometimes) continue up for a bit with the fuller head voice.
My interpretation is that at A4 on up my voice naturally likes to go into this second, lighter vibrational mode. My teacher refers to this area as my "second bridge". I think my transition into a lighter voice at around A4 is very much like what most females do at Eb5 or so as they enter "head voice".
I also seem to hit a wall around Eb5 which my teacher refers to as my "3rd bridge", and except for some funny squeaky noises I'm not able to sing above that pitch.
Cheers,
Michael Gordon
