Please correct the seventh paragraph in my last e-mail:
I wrote:
"The cricothyroid muscles are basically stretching muscles that lengthen the vocal folds and, in so doing, increase the longitudinal tension along the folds. The cricothyroid muscles achieve this lengthening of the vocal folds by contracting and thereby pulling the lower posterior of the thyroid cartilage toward the posterior of the cricothyroid cartilage."
The words "posterior" in this paragraph should have been "anterior". It is the front of the thyroid cartilage that is pulled toward the front of the cricothyroid cartilage. The corrected paragraph should read:
The cricothyroid muscles are basically stretching muscles that lengthen the vocal folds and, in so doing, increase the longitudinal tension along the folds. The cricothyroid muscles achieve this lengthening of the vocal folds by contracting and thereby pulling the lower anterior of the thyroid cartilage toward the anterior of the cricothyroid cartilage.
