I would explore several things. First, is she so focused on "singing right" and having good technique that she CAN'T give feeling to her songs? Or does she generally have problems showing emotion?
An excellent idea would be for her to take serious acting classes. Gradually, with a good acting coach, she should come out of her shell and learn to translate what she can do with the spoken word to what she can do while singing.
