Amanda,

a

Amanda,
As a member of a university voice faculty who auditions students for
graduate study I must say that you are asking for difficulties if you do not
do as asked regarding a rep list. The faculty hearing your audition want a
complete repertoire list to help them evaluate the breadth of your vocal
studies. The rep on the list gives the reader an opportunity to note
styles, historical periods, difficulty of repertoire, etc. It's not only
about composers. If you offer only what you are prepared to sing the jury
will have to take extra time in the audition to quiz you about rep - or may
simply think you don't have much rep. In either case they will doubtless
observe that you don't follow directions. NOT a good thing.

It is conceivable that a limited rep list - as you propose it - my lead the
jury to determine that you are deficient in repertoire and may affect your
entrance into or status within the program. It has happened and it could
happen to you. Please reread the instructions. If the institution requires
a repertoire list assume that it it to be complete and proceed from there.

regards,
Cindy Donnell

<Ok, I'm applying to grad schools too. . . and for my rep lists, I think
I'll probably just list the stuff that is 'performance ready'. . . the stuff
I can pull out of my book and sing at just about any time. SNIP As far as
putting all the material I've worked on onto the list, I'm terrified they'll
ask me for something I worked on two years ago and haven't touched since in
my audition. Mandi>
