About 90% of the art song literature we sing is from the male point of view --
at least the bulk of it from earlier periods of music. The dramatic challenge
for the singer is to be able to assume the persona of the character that is
speaking those words, as Karen M. said. We women sing as "men" all the time --
otherwise, we would have very little repertoire to sing! :-)
