i haven't read either but, i will check out mamet. i am under the impression that stanislavsky has been misinterpreted by ...uh...what's his name...the actor's studio guy (strasberg?). i like stanislavsky's sensory exercise - using the memory of how something felt to create a different place, at least, for the actor (it probably stops there).
my favorite piece of acting advice comes from spencer tracy - "know your lines!"
