Not really a cat poem, aside from its use of cat imagery as a metaphor. This haiku-like poem (written in 1918) is rather sweet, though, and very brief:
The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches then moves on.
There are several musical settings of the poem, including one in the cycle A TREASURY OF CARL SANDBURG HAIKU by Robert Arnold Hal;, another in the cycle I SANG, AND OTHER SONGS for soprano and guitar, by Patrick Soluri; another by Netty Simons; another by Jane Smith Hart, originally for SATB chorus, but adapted by the composer for soprano, flute, and piano; a piano composition by Ernst Bacon, to be played while the poem is recited, and an orchestral "interpretation" of the poem in Calvin Jackson's CARL SANDBURG SUITE.
