My first thought - Lou Reed and Velvet Underground knock-off, at least in terms of style.
Yes, it seems to be musically an incredibly simplistic (and boring) song, and the lyrics seem to be pretty banal.
Now that we know what we're working with, my second gut reaction was: Pretend you're singing "You'll never walk alone" from CAROUSEL. Use the modulations into higher keys to inject an ever-increasing amoung of intensity, excitement, and go all out on the chorus (which I didn't hear in the clip, but which - given the banality of the music and my past familiarity with Cave's writing - is utterly predictable). Instead of emulating Cave, think Freddie Mercury in the band Queen at its most operatic.
