it looks as if there is a complete gap between where your tastes lie and where your future daughter in law's lie. while it may be difficult to understand what each other could be thinking, it might help to have a transitional figure in the middle. i suggest you check out scott walker (walker and cave have actually recorded together). what you'll find in walker is singing that is a little closer to the approach you are accustomed to and, it might be easier for you to approach the cave song halfway which, would mean borrowing from what you might imagine walker would do rather than trying to go all the way to cave or, give up and just sing it as if it were classical which, would only raise all the eyebrows on her side of the aisle.
