Yu Wei began playing the cello at age 4 and won numerous honorary
scholarships at the Shanghai Conservatory. He is currently attending
North Park University in Chicago and is studying cello with Professor Hans
Jensen at Northwestern University.

In March of 2001 Yu Wei won First Prize in the String Category (Collegiate
Level) of the Music Teachers National Association Competition held in
Washington, D.C. This past April he played Shostakovich's Concerto No. 1
at Symphony Hall in Chicago with the North Park Orchestra.
