There is a 1933 recording of Chaliapin singing the Ibert cycle
(conducted by the composer), which is a bit peculiar. Chaliapin was
over 60 when the recording was made and clearly his voice wasn't in
good shape anymore.
I have performed the Ibert Quichotte songs (together with the Ravel's)
a few years ago and although I'm a 'real' baritone they didn't feel
uncomfortable to me. The lowest note in the cycle is Ab2 and the
highest is E4.
