Subject:  Bent vocal cords

Has anyone ever heard of a condition called 'bent vocal cord'? A
friend of mine was recently told by a doctor that he has this
condition. Apparently it means that one side of the vocal cords does
not close properly. The symptom is that when he talks his voice
cracks in normal speech.

The condition came on several months ago, perhaps because of a virus
that affected his vocal cords.

A speech therapist recommended that he make the sound 'ah' several
times an hour throughout the day, and to softly make the sound of a
cat 'meow', also several times throughout the day.

Thanks very much.
