carol, all experts do not agree. most experts blame calorie restriction diets as the leading cause of yo-yo dieting. the biggest danger in calorie restriction diets is a loss of muscle with the loss of fat. the heart is a muscle. it is far easier to regain fat than it is to regain muscle. when the fat is put back on, the heart usually remains in its weaker condition. yo-yo dieting puts more strain on a weaker heart. the most common recommendation by the experts is to drink water (8-10 8oz. glasses per day). and even this recommendation is frowned upon by some of the macro-biotic school. in 'how to lower your fat thermostat' by remington, fisher and parent, the authors discuss, among other things, the surprising results of overfeed studies where a calorie eaten did not equal a calorie gained. the following is a list of experts who recommend against calorie restriction diets:
eat more, weigh less- ornish the mcdougal plan- mcdougal 4 types of eating...-d'amato diet revolution- atkins hawaiian diet- shintani protein power- drs. eades
the list does go on. these examples are all doctors with clinical proof of diets that are not calorie restrictive. they vary from vegan to blood thirsty, meat eater diets (no bias intented- yeah right!)
