Hello :) I'm new to this list, and subscribed because as a student of classical voice I need info and advice...but sometimes I read off-topic discussions to feel connected to other singers. :-) I'm a lyrical soprano, 19 years old. I study mostly on my own, but when I need guidance, my aunt (Svetlana Strezeva;coloratura soprano) gives me lessons. We have sang two Russian duets together four times now, in nursing homes, and the first time I was on stage with her, just her voice and mine and dozens of eyes, I sang with my eyes closed...It felt more comfortable to stay focused on what I have to do inside! But the last time we sang together, she insisted that I keep my eyes open and smile, but the problem is that the minute I see so many people and all looking in our direction, I get very nervous! Therefore I lose concentration on the position of the abdomen, chest, and the vocal organs... I feel short of breath, and my voice sounds as if someone stepped on it... And another problem about this is that when I feel this "pressure of audience", it's hard to connect my heart to my voice.
Are there any techniques that can be helpful? I think everyone went through something similar, and maybe there was a way they found an easy way out from anxiety to bliss?...
