Oh, dear! The poor accompanist. However, I think it's good to hear about these things; kind of allows us to realize no matter how bad a situation is, we can get through it.
I do wonder, though, if you had continued singing and the accompanist had found the right page, could she have come in and salvaged the piece without the audience ever knowing you were doing anything other than singing an a capella solo?
I had a similar situation in h.s. when I played a cornet solo at a state festival, only my accompanist didn't have any problem.
Ahh, young puppy love! I had a crush on a fellow who had graduated from my school a couple years earlier and he was attending the music program at that particular college. He came to hear me play (probably not because it was me, but because I came from that particular h.s.).
During a lengthy rest my mind wandered to the view outside the window. When I realized my accompanist had stopped playing, I turned, looked at her and we commenced as if it had all been planned. To my surprise I received a first rating while another classmate, with a beautiful voice, received a second on her (vocal) solo.
I admit, I felt guilty because I thought she naturally deserved a first place, and after all, I had messed up.
Oh, well. Hope you don't mind my sharing this.
