kyle, concerning your problem with practicing, if you haven't already, you may want to see if your high school has any options open to you. i would guess your problem with practicing at home may be not wanting your parents to hear you. and though i could assure you that whatever you left for them in your diapers at an earlier age is far worse than anything you could do with your voice, i'm sure you would still find yourself getting intimidated. the practice problem is one you'll have to solve eventually and that means just grabbing the bull by the tail and facing the music. if you drive and can be alone in your car, it is not great but, the feeling of invincibility somewhat makes up for the poor acoustics. one thing you might try for two reasons is singing into a towel. if you sing into a towel the sound will be heavily muffled and you won't be heard by anyone around. is this kind of practice valuable? to a point. it is amazing how well the voice works when not reacting to or trying to fix the sound. paying attention to the feel has you concentrating on the action you are in the process of doing rather than concentrating on the sound you have already created. hope this is helpful.
