After every recital, when I finally get around to listening to the tape, I have these same thoughts. It's not really a rude awakening anymore -- just the ongoing-and-forever knowledge that I will never be where I want to be, which is, of course, PERFECT! :)
Hang in there with your fine teacher and keep plugging away. If you get to the point where you can give your audience an entertaining evening with a few perfect moments, you will have "made it."
