Opera Colorado announces auditions for the 2007
Outreach Enesmble. The ensemble will consist of six singers (two
sopranos, one mezzo-soprano, one tenor, one baritone and one bass) and one
coach accompanist.
Artists are contracted for a five-month residency, January-May, and
receive a $1600 monthly stipend.
The primary outreach shows for the 2007 season are The Island of Tulipatan
(Offenbach) and La Curandera (Rodriguez), a bilingual work premiered by
Opera Colorado in 2006. Artists will also be cast in the main roles for
the student matinee performance of Donizetti's L'eslir d'amore (sung in
Italian with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra) as well as possibly covering
and/or being assigned roles in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera.
Auditions will be held in NYC on October 6, 2006 and in Denver on October
13, 2006.
Interested applicants should submit the following: cover letter, resume,
8x10 black and white head shot, non-refundable application fee of $25, and
please specify preferred audition location: NYC or Denver.
Applications must be postmarked by September 29, 2006.

Singer audition requirements:
two operatice arias, of contrasting styles in two different foreign
languages, and a third selection in English, from operetta or musical
theatre. An introduction for one of the applicant's arias presented as if
speaking to an audience of elementary school children. Stage presence,
characterization, movement and the candidates' ability to interact with
students will be taken into consideration equally with vocal and stylistic
qualities.
Coach Accompanist audition requirements:Please prepare one aria or
ensemble selection of your choice from L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano
Donizetti (approximately 2-3 minutes unsung) and sightread one aria
(sung). Please be prepared to offer the singer musical suggestions in a
mini coaching session (7-10 minutes). Knowledge of operatic repertoire,
excellent piano skills, positive coaching techniques and encouragement are
successful traits for this position.
