For another view on the controversy, take a look at the article "The Heavenly Jukebox... from Hell" in last month's Atlantic Monthly (probably available at http://www.theatlantic.com). It argues that while Internet music will have a *significant* impact on recording company profits, it will do little, if anything, to the income of musicians. Also goes into detail about the particular profit-making practices of recording companies.
