I have been leading a fight during the past two years to make it legal to play copyrighted music material over the internet as long as the internet provider earns no money off the music material. I realize HFA and ASCAP and the RIAA are fighting against this proposal because they say they will lose money, but I, and others in this fight against the big music vendors believe that CD sales WILL improve and they, the songwriters will earn more money from sales than they would otherwise because more people will become familiar with their music. The RIAA reports that if music were allowed play over the internet there would be a rash of illegal copying from the internet and no one will buy CD's anymore. That's just not true. No matter what you hear on the internet it will never sound as good as the real CD. As to the copying, I doubt they'll be anymore copying than is already going on from people who have the means, copying their favorite CD's to one to share with friends. If you are interested in reading more about this discussion type the words "MIDI Conspiracy" on any search engine. It's a giant issue going all the way through Congress.
