I gave my first professional performance as a classical singer yesterday! It was so exciting! I sang the tenor solo in Haydn's first mass with an orchestra and choir. Funny thing is, my singing teacher (who also performed in it) called me three days ago, saying that the tenor who was supposed to do the performance had food poisoning, and they needed someone to fill his shoes. I took the offer straight away. It was a great experience! I got a little panicky during some bits, and lost a bit of my support at certain points, but overall was very happy. I got to sing next to my teacher, which was an amazing feeling, and two sopranos, who were wonderful singers. God, my voice felt so loud compared to theirs though- I felt like I had nowhere to hide, and I couldn't back off, for fear of going off my voice. My teacher assured me that I should sing fully and not worry about being too loud. This helped me a lot. It's wonderful to get paid for doing something you love.
