here's a site you might find more stuff for your list on. i had
forgotten about one of the sets of songs (5 in all, i think) by andre jolivet
that are particulary beautiful, as i remember. i have only heard them once
sung by sandy sylvan at tanglewood back in the 70s.

and this may not count because of the instrumentation but, do you know
of henze's 'el cimarron'? there used to be a recording with william pearson
(great baritone voice), stomu yamashta- perc., karlheinz zoller- flute and a
cuban guitarist whose name i've sadly forgotten. the subject is slavery.
it is a really effective work and i think, by far, the best think henze ever
wrote.
