At the university I've been attending, all voice recitals are videotaped,
and the last opera dress rehearsal I attended was videotaped as well. The
recital videotapes are put in the library so students can review them
afterwards. I'm sure that if you explained to the director you were using it
as a tool to improve your performance s/he would not object. After all, it's
in their best interest :o). And as for actual performances, I think the
audience would ignore it - many performances are taped nowadays.
