Dear Vocalisters:
There is no good reason why boys voice should not sing while they are going through the voice change. It is a matter of adjusting the music to fit their transient ranges as their voices alter.
As a general rule the boy should sing in as a high a range as is comfortable rather than forcing or emphasizing the new lower notes. It is much less damaging for the changing voice to continue to use the upper register than it is for the changing voice to attempt to use the new lower notes which are not quite ready for singing and are usually very insecure.
Continuous changes in range are common and the voice teacher or choral director must be ever vigilant to accommodate these range needs.
