I remember having spaghetti and meatballs with another music student a few
years ago, and putting on a recording of Bjoerling singing "Adelaide" which
prompted amazement and tears, and then an exploration of more Jussi,
including "Che gelida manina". And another time when I came into the house
while Lina had the radio on and Jussi was singing - I think it was "Nessun
dorma" and I was a blubbering mess, and not much use for a while. His voice
gives me the illusion of a human soul completely exposed, whether in
heroism or vulnerability: the human condition in a timbre and a phrase.
