Most sopranos have a good useable 2 octaves plus a few notes on either side. I bet that most sopranos have nearly 3 octaves that they can phonate on -- I can growl an F below middle C and squeak out a high F, but I never use anything more than A below middle C and a high D or E (and never in the same piece).
A lot of people count three C's, so they think that means three octaves.
