david,

thanks for your help. i have been trying to plow through bunch and
miller again. it seems that every time i start, i either get impatient and
wonder what the hell i'm reading about a bunch of muscles i'll never feel or,
my eyes roll back into my head and i pass out from delirium. sometimes i'll
be reading this stuff and i'll realize i have no idea what i'm reading about,
then it dawns on me that i have been daydreaming for several pages.

a year ago, i got gillyanne kayes book 'singing and the actor'. she
had worked with both meribeth bunch and jo estill. the most interesting
aspect of the book was in looking at what was going on the outside of the
neck. she discusses looking at the operations of the larynx as one can
observe by feel. for me, the most interesting observation was in the
tilting of the thyroid cartilege, indicating involvement of the
crico-thyroids in increasing pitch. also, she discusses different
possibilities for different results.

thanks again for your help.
