This is a really simple one.
You must have translations. Our purpose in singing is to communicate music
with text (virtually always with text, anyway). The composer created the
music to communicate the words. If the audience is not informed as to the
meaning of the words, even if you are a terrific communicator, they will
only receive a very small percentage of the message of the song.
You must have translations. Program notes are important too, and quite
helpful, but not as essential as translations, if you find you can't have
both. Put your foot down on this one. If management just won't cooperate,
as a last resort, you can produce them yourself on your computer at home and
distribute them as inserts to the program.
