The worst experience I ever had with incense was during a funeral when they put the thurible (hey, I learned a new word!) back in its spot RIGHT NEXT TO ME. I can deal with it when it's dissipating throughout the room - I find that having it right next to me will shut my throat up almost completely. Ack.
