Happy New Year to all!

While I did not see Fleming's concert on TV the other night, my husband &
I had the interesting experience of sitting through the concert that was
the basis for the "Star-Crossed Lovers" program on PBS that she &
Dominigo recorded with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra about a year & a
half ago.

Fleming is a wonderful operatic singer & her "Susanah" (Floyd) is amazing
but a cross-over singer she is not. Part of the aforementioned program
included "Tonight" (& perhaps one or two other selections, I don't
remember for sure) from "West Side Story". While classical training may
be required to sing that music, a sense of the style & inflection is
required as well. My husband & I had to keep ourselves from snickering
when they sang this because it sounded silly!
