Mike, I really have to take issue with the statement above. What basis could
you possibly
have for ASSUMING that a significant number of singers are putting on act of
being
bothered by something! Any more than anyone being bothered by anything?
Sheesh. I'm in
Human Resources, and bosses that make a practice of assuming any employee
concern is
"faking it" have no end of trouble with their staffs. It's not hard to
separate the
legitimate from the "fake" when people really are "faking it".

Frankly, I'd never question anybody complaining about a foreign substance they
have no
choice but to inhale into their lungs! Why should they have to be subjected to
that? How
many years did it take for coal mine employers or textile employers to
recognize black
lung and white lung as legitimate serious employment-related health conditions.
And
asbestos exposure! Etc, Etc, ad infinitum.

Of all the performers I've ever worked with, I can only think of one person who
seemed to
fake physical ailments to get out of doing something she didn't want to do (it
wasn't fog
in this case). But it was so transparent, nobody was fooled for a minute. We
let her
think she'd fooled us, because it wasn't worth making a fuss about in this
instance.
