A fellow church- and opera- singing friend of mine also has experienced vocal changes from reflux laryngitis, but hers is manifested by a loss of low notes, specifically anything below middle C, where she had a fabulously warm and full sound, down to an F below. The ENT told her her arytenoids are red and swollen.
My question is this: What is happening in physical terms that affects only her lowest range? Her top is unaffected, and in fact, has expanded a few notches since she started having problems.
She also has intermittent dysphonia, where nothing comes out but squeaky air on any given note in her middle range, then the next note will be just fine.
Medicine, lifestyle changes and weight loss have not helped her either, by the way.
Thanks,
Laura Sharp
