of course, both can be taken too far- the wicked witch of the west and
the cowardly lion remind me of voice teachers i've had from both extremes.

a balance of the two can be achieved without feeling one has to give up
on value. a 'bitey' sound that is nasty has no space (not enough) and a
overly dark sound has lost focus, probably due to trying to create space
where there just isn't enough room (in the old 'dick van dyke show', laura
got into trouble once for opening a life raft in the closet).

within the reasonable limits of the capabilities of a voice, the two can
be controlled independently.
