Don't get me wrong, I'm not denigrating teachers who expect a lot from their students - I like to think I do, but I like to think I get there thru encouragement, nurturing and positive reinforcement. I've just witnessed teachers who do the opposite, often in public, and somehow are thought of with g*dlike reverence.
