Dear Vocalist:

As you can tell, I'm slowly but surely catching up on my posts. It's been a
big week here:

I just bought a new computer, so I can hopefully attend to personal e-mail
and Vocalist at home soon. This staying in my office after-hours thing is
for the birds, and I could be doing this at home with a cat in my lap, and
my pajamas on!

I'm going to be an aunt! In November. Auntie Jana!

And, I've been assigned as musical director for NWU's fall production of The
Wiz. I've had many hours of preproduction meetings already.

This is uncharted territory for me, so please give me advice! I've never
coached singers in a musicale before--only opera. What are your collective
experiences? I'm particularly interested in helping the performers sing
stylistically, without hurting their voices.

Has anyone on the list ever worked on this particular show?

As always, thanks for your help and sage advice--I'm going home now!

Cheers!

Jana
