No, I've got one coming up as well, and I'll be singing the alto part. Nobody wants to hear me sing the soprano solos, believe me!>>
Well, that's the way I feel about me singing "I know that my redeemer liveth," but unfortunately, due to a comedy of errors, I'm doing it!!

I talked about the Jake Heggie songs from his collection, FACES OF LOVE, a couple of weeks ago. I was privileged enough to hear Frederica von Stade in concert with the Milwaukee Symphony a few months ago, and she wrote the text for a cycle called "A Route to the Sky" in this collection - so when I got her autograph, instead of signing the MSO program, I had her sign my book!!! I started teaching the last and title song of the cycle to one of my star mezzo high school students (who job-shadowed me yesterday as a school assignment) and she was in love with it! I'm also working on the entire cycle for myself. In addition, I introduced the song "In the beginning" from the cycle "Of Gods and Cats" to another of the mezzos, who is a HS senior auditioning for musical theater programs.
Speaking of the latter, she is auditioning for a program at a state university and she has a FOUR MINUTE time limit - for 2 contrasting monologues and 2 contrasting songs!!!! What is the point of this??? Better to have 1 of each and give the student time to show what they've got, or to have them send in an audio/videotape to weed out the chaff, if they're so overwhelmed with applicants!!!!
