Subject:  the lighter side of contest adjudication

Dear Vocalist:

This is one of those supposedly-true e-mails..."Actual Comments taken from
Solo and Ensemble Adjudicator Sheets." Nothing that I would actually write,
but they did make me smile. Enjoy!

I've heard better tone production from a weed-whacker.

Did you MEAN to be playing that piece from the middle out to the edges?

The little "b" means flat, and the "pound sign" means sharp.

Please try not to sob during all the rests.

Whole notes should be held LONGER than eighth notes.

The correct fingering for open G is as follows: open.

Was that an accelerando at measure 37, or were you just fumbling for
the note?

Okay, now turn the music right side up and start again!

When tuning up, you should both try to play the same note.

If you tapped your foot any louder, we could call this a percussion
solo.

If you need to stop and cry in the middle of your solo, please
indicate this in the judge's copy of your music.

Cheers!

Jana
