'pink elephant' is a very hard game to play. played on the honor system, 'pink elephant' is a game where the object is to be the last player not to think of 'pink elephant'. the problem, of course, is that trying not to think of 'pink elephant' includes the words 'pink elephant'. the trick is to think of something else so thouroughly that you forget anything to do with 'pink elephant' including not thinking about 'pink elephant'.
as the above applies to your situation, it is not what you need to forget that is important but, what you need to think of more. i'm sure you know how to walk and i'm sure, as a student of anatomy, you know which muscles are involved. when you get lost, do you concentrate on which muscles to coordinate better? or, do you think about taking a better route? as you know, your muscles can combine to do a variety of activities. they are usually organized by 'what you tell them to do' not 'how you tell them to do it'.
as singers, we often make the mistake of assuming that the desired result is achieved by a similar action. this is often not the case. if what you do produces a result different from what you intended, that action isn't wrong. that action produces that result. if you intend that result, that action is how you would do it. to attain your original intention, you just have to intend to do something else. you have already found out intending to be anal about the coordination of your muscles doesn't produce the intended results either so, look elsewhere.
