i have worked with a number of female students over 50 who had wobbles. the problem, as i see it, comes from singing in head voice too low. in each case, as i got them to sing in chest voice in the low range and begin a mix higher, saving head for the high range, the wobble instantly disappeared and each one sounded twenty years younger (triggering the most 'girly' behavior).
jerome hines reports something similar in his book 'the four voices of man'. he says it has something to do with bowed vocal folds.
