You can't get much chirpier than the great coloraturas Luisa Tetrazzini and Amelita Galli-Curci. Also Conchita Supervia (one of the chirpiest mezzos ever). And, of course, that doyenne of Hollywood chirpiness, Jeanette MacDonald. It seems to have been a matter of taste early in the 20th Century that led to this type of voice among sopranos. It's a technical detail one certainly didn't find in any other voice type. Louise Homer, Ernestine Schumann-Heink, and Sophie Braslau were certainly not "chirpy". "Hooty" maybe (the early 20th Century M.O. of low-voiced women was "hootiness"), but never "chirpy".
