Hello list!
I was a member of this list in the Vocalist days as an undergraduate at Union University. I've been inactive for about six months (and had a heck of a time figuring out what had happened when I tried to resubscribe, by the way!). To make a long story short, I've graduated and I'm taking the year off to serve as the music associate/intern at my home church (Salem Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN). To supplement my part time work at the church I've started teaching private voice and piano. I've felt rather intimidated by the task of teaching voice, worrying that I may point someone in the wrong direction or something. But so far I've been surprised by how much fun I've had teaching!
My question is this.... What are some good collections for very young voices. I have several middle school girls and a couple of late elementary school girls. I would really like to find something that is challenging, but that they can relate to! The first book of soprano solos just isn't going to work! All of the girls are very musical and the two elementary schoolers have such beautiful, clear voices! (So many exclamation points.....) I would appreciate any advice you "veterans" have for a new, inexperienced teacher.
Thanks,
