Dawn Upshaw and Sylvia McNair would be very good examples of singers who
mirror SLS production in opera although they were not trained through SLS.
They both bridge out of chest (their speaking voice more or less on the
bottom) and carry it higher than the norm but in such a way they are still
able to connect out of it. This is why they are both so versatile. Ms
Upshaw in the current NATS JOS states she doesn't change a thing production
wise between her classical repertoire and her more popular works which is
something SLS people would stress also.

To some maybe she doesn't sound "operatic" enough, but I'd much rather listen
to her any day rather than someone who distorts the vowels and timbre beyond
the point that it loses its humanity.
