I wrote about this at the time of The Crash, so I'm not sure it got through. I had a recital a while ago, and, while I was sitting and listening to the other performers, I started to get very nervous.
Dr. Diane's love of affirmations flew into my mind, and in desperation, I started repeating to myself, "I will be poised, expressive, relaxed, and I will retain my technical skill." I contentrated hard, blocked everything else out of my mind, and repeated it at least a thousand times, like an automatic mantra, in my head. And what do you know -- it helped! It really did.
So a) thanks, Dr. Diane, for being such a proponant of affirmations during my three years on the Vocalist, and b) give it a try, all you who suffer from anxiety, and see if it doesn't help.
