Hi List:
I am going to give you a little background on how I have worked up to this fundraiser idea. It is a little off, but here it goes! A year ago I went to meet my fiancé's family in Zimbabwe where he grew up. Once there I was absolutely moved by the epidemic of AIDS there and how it is effecting their children. Millions will be orphaned by AIDS in a country where they are already poverty stricken.
Since my return I have been brainstorming on ideas to raise money and awareness to this epidemic in Africa. And I decided I would start by holding a fundraiser for this cause on December 1, 2000 which happens to be World AIDS day. I will align the occasion with an organization like UNAIDS or something similar.
My question to you is what type of repertoire would you suggest? My initial impression was to provide an eclectic show! My background is primarily opera and some musical theater. I thought I would also invite other area performers if they are free to participate, and hopefully invite a choir to perform Negro spirituals.
This is a pretty demanding task so the more help you offer the better! Any suggestions?
