i have two male students, 10 and 12, and i told them both to get billy
gilman's cd. it seems to help them to have some idea of what they might be
potentially capable of. in addition to singing well, billy gilman doesn't
sound like he'd rather be singing about pokemon the way some of these poor
kids with the singing versions of hockey parents sound like. the hardest
one of his songs to listen to is 'oklahoma' about a boy meeting his father
for the first time. in his acknowledgements, he thanks his voice teacher
(of the last three years) for teaching him how to sing and how to 'belt'.
not being a fan of the adult (sic?) michael jackson, i hope master gilman
ends up better off.
