thank you for your response. i had been under the impression that your judgement of style was intertwined with your judgement of technique (i think it dates back to a discussion on 'elitism'). i thank you for clearing that up.
i am not sure what you are specifically refering to when you 'processes and products'.
with regards to the singers' formant and other styles of music, i think you will find that there are quite a few singers in a variety of other styles that do produce the singers' formant. the consistancy with which they do is not the same as miking makes it unneccesary.
