Hi all,

I just had another, of several, 'expert' tell me his degree in music was from
Columbia Pacific. Just in case you hear about CPU from another source I wanted
to pass this on.

California State Board of Higher Education
News Release

COLUMBIA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY ORDERED
TO CLOSE PERMANENTLY

Date: January 13, 2000 Media Contact: Paula David (916) 323-5178

SACRAMENTO—The Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education
today announced that a final judgment has been issued by Marin County Superior
Court,
ordering Columbia Pacific University (CPU) of Novato to permanently cease
operations...

Among other items, the judge found that CPU:

awarded excessive credit for prior experiential learning to many
students;
failed to employ duly qualified faculty; and
failed to meet various requirements for issuing Ph.D. degrees."

The rest of the article is at http://www.dca.ca.gov/press_releases/2000113.htm
and can
be freely accessed by anyone seeking information on CPU.

Additional note: There is a CPU website still offering degrees over the web. The
initials fit.
